Go skiing by motorhome for a real winter adventure

Skiing by motorhome has many advantages:

- You can ski somewhere different every day and visit many more ski resorts than you otherwise would. This is especially attractive if you head for the ski resorts of Austria, Italy or France.

- You do not depend on the weather, so you can catch the best conditions on the slopes.

- A motorhome makes you much more flexible. If you do not like a ski resort or the weather is bad, you can change your plans at any time and go somewhere else. If you book an apartment and get a foggy week, you do not have much choice.

- Enjoy skiing during the day and spend the evenings in your warm motorhome, sharing time together over board games. You can also visit glamorous villages and towns, stroll through them and feel their buzz (Kitzbühel, Val Gardena, Madonna di Campiglio …).

- You can park and camp right next to the slopes. Many ski resorts have a special area next to the slopes for motorhome parking (motorhome stopovers, in Slovenia called PZA). All your ski gear is stored safely in the spacious lockers at the back of the motorhome.

- It is cheaper than staying in a hotel or apartment (you can cook for yourself, motorhome rental is cheaper outside the main season, and up to 6 people can stay in one motorhome).

- A ski holiday “in your own bubble”, in the comfort of your own motorhome.

If this is your first ski trip by motorhome, here are a few great ideas on how to combine skiing and sightseeing and have a real winter adventure in a short time.

By motorhome to Kranjska Gora

Take your motorhome skiing in Kranjska Gora. Right below the slopes there is the PZA Kranjska Gora motorhome stopover, or you can stay at Camp Špik, which is open all year round. At the Kranjska Gora ski resort you can choose from no fewer than 18 runs of different difficulty.

On a 4 or 5-day trip you can also visit Planica, Tamar, Lake Jasna and the beautiful Zelenci natural spring. After a full day of skiing, a swim or a sauna is just the thing. You can drive to the nearby Živa Wellness in Bled or to one of the hotels that also offer wellness facilities.

If the weather is not on your side, or you want to try other runs, you can also drive your motorhome to other Slovenian ski resorts that have motorhome stopovers (PZA). At some of them you can stay right next to the slopes.

Slovenian ski resorts with motorhome stopovers (PZA):

• Kope ski resort, a lively ski resort above Slovenj Gradec. PZA Kope is right next to the slopes, a restaurant and a bar that often hosts parties. There is also a wellness centre with saunas and jacuzzis nearby.

• Rogla ski resort, the right choice in every season, as it offers many other sports activities besides skiing. PZA Rogla is at the very top of Rogla and was renovated in 2019. Our customers use it regularly. Nearby there is also a well-kept wellness centre with an indoor pool, saunas and massages.

• Golte ski resort is near Mozirje and is an excellent base for skiers, hikers and cyclists. Right next to the lower gondola station there is PZA Golte. Only 5 km away, you can also stay at Camping Menina, which is open all year round.

• Soriška planina ski resort is a well-known ski resort with a long tradition. The motorhome stopover has been turned into the new Soriška planina campsite, right next to the slopes and open all year round.

• Mariborsko Pohorje ski resort is the largest ski centre in Slovenia. You can enjoy more than 40 km of runs for all levels. Only 300 metres from the lower gondola station is Camp Kekec, where you can stay with your motorhome in every season.

• Vogel ski resort lies in an idyllic mountain setting and is a well-known family ski resort, where even the youngest skiers have fun. You can stay with your motorhome at Camp Danica, 10 km away, which offers a free ski bus to the Vogel, Soriška planina and Senožeti ski resorts.

Skiing in Italy by motorhome

Take your motorhome to the Dolomites. The Dolomites are known as one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the Alps and offer countless skiing experiences. Why not spend your winter holiday in the heart of the Dolomites, where your motorhome lets you visit several ski resorts: Sexten (3 Zinnen), Kronplatz and Sella Ronda (Corvara).

You can also drive over for a day or two of skiing in Madonna di Campiglio, known for its luxury accommodation, restaurants, wine bars and bars. Or treat yourself to a scenic ski holiday in two countries and take your motorhome skiing in Cortina d’Ampezzo, which lies on the border with Austria. Thanks to its idyllic landscape, several famous Hollywood films were shot here. It is also called the Queen of the Dolomites, and skiing here really is something special. Even without skis you can have a true winter fairy tale there, full of sports, pampering and unforgettable walks.

In short, a motorhome gives you real freedom of choice. You stay right next to the slopes, choose the run that suits you best and treat yourself to a real winter break. To complete your ski holiday in Italy, you can also stop for a short visit to Venice.

Skiing in Austria by motorhome

You can also take your motorhome skiing in Austria. We recommend the Schladming ski resort, which also offers night skiing on a 3 km run. With a combined ski pass you can also ski in nearby Flachau, which offers a full range of winter sports and entertainment. If the weather is not good, you can visit the nearby Therme Amadé and relax in the saunas.

By motorhome to Kitzbühel is for everyone who wants to taste the charm and luxury of Austria’s most glamorous resort. Here a motorhome is the cheapest option, as the town’s reputation and prestige also bring the most luxurious Austrian hotels and apartments at luxury prices. The next day you can go on to the Sölden ski resort, the only ski resort in Austria with three peaks above 3000 metres. It has a wide variety of terrain, from flat areas to steep canyons. World Championships are held here, and it is also very popular with professional snowboarders.
